Patient Assessment Survey (PAS)

The Patient Assessment Survey (PAS) is a non-profit, multi-stakeholder initiative to accurately measure patient experience. In operation for 17 years, feedback is gathered annually from over 40,000 patients across California. Adult and pediatric commercial patients are surveyed using the industry standard CG-CAHPS© instrument, with some customization for topics of interest locally.

Results are made available to the public through the Office of the Patient Advocate (OPA) Medical Group - Commercial Report Card. Ratings have also been featured in Consumer Reports and on the California HealthCare Foundation's (CHCF) calqualitycare.org site in past years.

PAS results are also used in quality improvement programs. Scores comprise 30% of the California Value-Based Pay for Performance formula administered by the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA). Health plans and medical groups also use the PAS medical group results for quality improvement and recognition activities.

PAS also administers doctor-level measurement, with both annual and quarterly survey fielding.
